Dive into the weekend with a focus on egg decorating and you just may find this is your new relaxing hobby!
We’ll start on Friday evening and conclude on Saturday afternoon using the wax resist method! This folk art tradition has been around for many, many years. Timea will present about the tradition and some of the different variations and then we will work on our own eggs!
Beginner Class — plan to attend both sessions
Friday, October 24th 7:00 – 8:30pm, ET
Saturday, October 25th 10:00 – 11:30am, ET
7:00 – 8:30pm: Timea will talk about the tradition and about the egg decorating tools. We will get the dye ready.
10:00 – 11:30am: We will prepare the eggs by drawing the patterns on them with a pencil. We will do other prep work and learn about this special tradition. We will use the beeswax, dye the eggs, and finish them up.
Advanced Techniques Class
Saturday, October 25th 1:00 – 2:30pm, ET
If you have already taken the first class, or have some experience with wax resist dying, you can join the Advanced class where we will learn how to blow out an egg and utilize a design with a second color.
There are no refunds within two weeks of the class. Classes will be held on Zoom and will not be recorded.
You need to have the supplies for this class. If you don’t already own them here is a link to purchase one here: https://thehungarianstore.com/product/hungarian-easter-egg-decorating-kit/
Timea has been decorating Easter eggs for many years. Timea lives in the United States but is from Transylvania (located in Romania today) and will teach the Transylvanian patterns from her region.
Supplies Needed for Class:
If you do not own the items listed below already, you will need to purchase the Hungarian Egg Decorating Kit from The Hungarian Store. We will only use red and black dye for this class. So if you already have the general kit supplies and you have two different colors that you want to use, you don’t have to buy the kit.
ITEMS INCLUDED IN THE KIT:
Non-edible dye packets – red, black, royal blue, dark green, and orange
Íróka — writing tool
Íróka cleaner
Beeswax
Single egg stand
Plastic glove
Egg decoration booklet with instructions for various techniques, including what we will be doing for the class.
The contents of this kit can be used to create at least 12 eggs.
You will receive a supply list when you register for the other item not included in the kit that you need to make sure you have on hand on the first day of class.
Don’t forget to order your egg decorating kit before August 15th if you are participating in the class! The price for the kit will go up on after that day because we will need to ship it more quickly!
