Hungarian Songs with Kati
This session meets on Wednesdays at 7:30pm, Eastern time, starting on March 4th and will meet for four weeks.
This class was taught in Fall 2025 so check the songs and if you were in that class already, most of this will not be new material.
This is a great way to connect to Hungarian culture and music and language! If you love music and are interested in becoming familiar with the tune and lyrics to some well known Hungarian songs, this 4 week class is for you!
The instructor will lead the translation of the song with help from attendees, But don’t worry, one doesn’t need to know a lot of Hungarian to enjoy this class. Everyone can participate as much or as little as they want. In addition to looking at the lyrics, there will also be discussion about the cultural context of the song.
Please be prepared to have your camera on during class even if you don’t plan to actively contribute.
Songs in this session include:
Megkötöm lovamatÂ
Ha én rózsa volnék
Összegyűltek az izsapi lányok
Virágéknál ég a világ
Ugyan, édes komámasszony
Zöld erdőben jártam
Hajlik a bojzafaÂ
Babám az ajtót be ne lakatold
There will also be a couple of recruiting songs from the 1848-49 Hungarian Revolution since the class takes place during March.
Some of the songs are a bit spicy and in one class the topic will be about taboos and becoming an adult in the village. So, just be prepared! :+)
